Zeno Renewables is the title sponsor for The Calgary Surge.
Calgary, Alberta, February 22, 2023 – Today, Zeno Renewables (Zeno) announces their title sponsorship of the Calgary Surge professional basketball team, which will debut in its first Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) game on Saturday May 27, 2023.
“Calgary is built on energy of all different forms,” said Kai Fahrion, co-CEO of Zeno. “What this partnership shows is that renewable energy is part of that vision. Renewables are major players in the future of Calgary, just like the athletes on the Surge.”
The Calgary Surge is the city’s new Canadian professional basketball team, and its home court is WinSport Event Centre, which can hold over 3000 spectators. On May 27, 2023, the Surge will meet the Edmonton Stingers on home court, tipping off what is sure to become an electrifying rivalry and a new Battle of Alberta.
Calgary-based Zeno Renewables has a goal to install solar solutions on over one million homes by 2040, providing sustainability for Alberta’s economy and working with Canadians to fuel a greener future for their community, a goal the Surge supports.

The Calgary franchise originated as the Guelph Nighthawks in 2018, one of the six founding members of the CEBL. About the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL)
The CEBL is league created by Canadians for Canadians with a mission to develop Canadian players, coaches, sports executives, and referees. It boasts the highest percentage of Canadian players of any pro league in the country with 71 per cent of its roster being Canadian. Players bring experience from the NBA, NBA G League, top international pro leagues, the Canadian National team program, top NCAA programs, and USPORTS. Nine players have moved from the CEBL into the NBA following a CEBL season, and 28 CEBL players attended NBA G League training camps during October. The CEBL season runs from May to August.
