Am I Eligible to Receive Solar and Storage Rebates in Ontario?

To participate in the solar and battery system program, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • The home where the system will be installed must be connected to Ontario’s electricity grid. Please note, Cornwall Electric customers, who are connected to the Hydro-Québec electricity grid, are not eligible.
  • The home must be a single-detached, semi-detached, row, or townhome.
  • You must own the home and be responsible for the purchase and installation of the solar and storage system. If the home has tenants, the property owner must apply.
  • The solar panels must be installed on the rooftop of the home. Portable or temporary structures, including recreational vehicles and trailers, do not qualify.
  • The system must be sized only for load displacement—net metering is not allowed.
  • A battery energy storage system must be paired with the new rooftop solar panel system.
  • All equipment must be new, purchased in Canada, and owned by the program participant.
  • The equipment must meet all relevant standards, including ANSI, CAN, UL, CSA, IEEE, and CEC requirements.
  • You will need to obtain all necessary permits and permissions from your local municipality, distribution company (LDC), and regulatory bodies. This includes completing a Connection Assessment with the LDC and acquiring an Electrical Safety Authority certificate. Contact your local electric utility for detailed information about these requirements.
